Just like their four-legged companions are to their owners, workers of companies considered pet friendly are more loyal and feel more connected to the company's mission than workers of other companies. A survey by Nationwide, in partnership with the Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI), finds that 90 percent of employees in pet-friendly companies feel fully engaged in their work compared with 65 percent of workers of other companies. In an opinion piece on food safety published by Fortune, Neil Olson – a veterinarian and the dean of St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine – states that the “U.S. faces a severe shortage of veterinarians.”  He writes that “Every time Americans eat a cheeseburger without falling ill, they have veterinarians to thank” while noting that “there aren’t enough veterinarians to guarantee the safety of our food supply.  Read more....

Red flags such as a 6.3% decline in total donors and a 2.4% dip in total revenue year-over-year in the first quarter indicate charitable giving in the US could be slowing, according to the Fundraising Effectiveness Project. Earlier this week, Banfield Pet Hospital released its 2018 State of Pet Health Report, which explores the science behind allergic dermatitis in pets and sheds light on flea, atopic and food allergies.
