Save the Date – and Save the Date!

Save the Date – and Save the Date!

Greetings, colleagues –

VMAE is pleased to announce two great Thursday gatherings – one on May 21 and another on May 28. Join your colleagues in these VMAE | Live! Virtual Town Halls:

The COVID-19 Pandemic: Present and Future Impacts
Thursday, May 21 – 12:05-12:55 PM Mountain time

The public health crisis has touched every facet of life and each component of the veterinary community.  Our Strategic Initiative Partners have responded in exemplary ways, developing resources at lightning speed to assist veterinary professionals in adapting to new protocols of behavior, safety, service, and practice. This town hall will feature representatives of VMAE’s Titanium and Platinum level Strategic Initiative Partners to better members with the important work our partners have been doing to support the veterinary profession. In a lightning round of five minutes each, the representatives will share thoughts on the following questions:

  • What are the key learnings that your organization has distilled from the pandemic experience to date?
  • What resources did your organization create to help the veterinary community adapt to this new operating environment?
  • In what ways will this pandemic experience shape how your organization functions and provides value moving forward?

This virtual town hall is a way to hear our partners’ perspectives, celebrate the resources they’ve developed to benefit the profession, and to hear their prognostications about what they anticipate will be lasting implications for the veterinary ecosystem.  You’ll hear from:

  • AVMA
  • Banfield Pet Hospital
  • Elanco
  • AVMA Trust
  • Boehringer Ingelheim
  • CareCredit
  • Merck Animal Health

Questions from the audience will follow the roundtable discussion.

Hotel Contracts in the New Era
Thursday, May 28 – 12:05-12:55 PM Mountain time

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced cancellation or adjustment of plans for numerous meetings sponsored by veterinary medical associations.  Uncertainty about future public health conditions and potential governmental restrictions weigh heavily on the minds of VMA executives, and cause VMA members to consider whether they feel safe to travel and gather for association meetings even if/when restrictions have been lifted.  Join the conversation with three attorneys who have experience helping associations manage risk and resolving meeting-related questions such as these:

  • Since our force majeure clause doesn’t reference “pandemic” specifically are we at risk if we cancel our meeting?
  • What if our hotel can’t accommodate the number of expected participants when safety distancing is factored into room setups?
  • Are there negotiation strategies for cancelling prior to a governmental order that would prohibit our meeting?
  • What’s a good clause for future contracts that would cover us for a public health crisis and related issues like curtailment of transportation?
  • Can we even afford to purchase all-hazard event cancellation insurance anymore?

Our panelists are:

  • Isham R. Jones III, in-house legal counsel, American Veterinary Medical Association
  • Cara Lawrence, partner, Tierney Lawrence LLC
  • Jed R. Mandel, founding member of Chicago Law Partners LLC
