16 Sep Summer Conference and More

Approximately 60 members, strategic initiative partners and guests participated in the first in-person VMAE summer conference since 2019. The first day featured a panel addressing various DEI topics, including updates on Journey for Teams (more below) and the Gender Identity Bill of Rights.

Elections for the Board of Directors concluded the two day conference and your board serving for 2022/2023 is comprised of the following individuals:

  • President: Tim Atkinson – New York VMS
  • President-Elect: Christine Shupe – VHMA
  • Treasurer: Debra Hamelback – Kentucky VMA
  • Secretary: Tamara Spooner – New Mexico VMA
  • Immediate Past President: Dr. Randy Wheeler – Iowa VMA
  • Director: Eric Boehm, CAE – El Paso VMA
  • Director: Mia Cary, DVM – PrideVMC
  • Director: John Tramontana, CAE – Michigan VMA
  • Director: Cristina Keef- Portland VMA

The VMAE Board of Directors also met at the summer conference. Among its actions, the Board approved:

  • development of a Board Profile document to assist the organization in identifying gaps and individuals for future board nominations;
  • major updates to VMAE’s policy manual;
  • holding the President/President-Elect Forum at AVMA VLC in January 2023;
  • charges and descriptions for Professional Development and ThinkWORKS committees.
