  • Model Veterinary Practice Act, AVMA
    The AVMA Model Veterinary Practice Act (MVPA), serves as a model set of guiding principles for those who are now or will be in the future preparing or revising a practice act under the codes and laws of an individual state. Section 2-18 defines the practice of veterinary medicine, while Section 6 lists exemptions.
  • Sanctions for unauthorized practice of veterinary medicine
    This is a summary of statutory and regulatory provisions pertaining to the unauthorized practice of veterinary medicine across the 50 states. Notably, four states provide felony penalties for the unauthorized practice of veterinary medicine, while several others provide a misdemeanor penalty. There is also a listing of states that allow for injunctions, cease and desist orders, and monetary fines.
